I have had many requests to show how I make lavender wands. They are very simple to make and are so nice to put in drawers, hang in clothing, or anywhere you would like to smell the nice calming scent of lavender. (It is also a moth deterrent)
First cut the lavender stems. Make sure they are a bit on the long side and always use fresh cut as they bend better and don't break off. I usually cut down to where the leaves start. Use an odd number such as 7, 9, or 11 as you will be weaving. I have made rather large ones using 21 stems before but it is better to start off with a small number until you learn.
Next tie a knot around the stem just below the buds. You can make the cut end as long as the stems to tie in a bow if you would like. (I didn't do that here)
Then turn upside down and bring the first stem down to the right of the knot and go over the stem with the ribbon.
Bring the next stem down but this time place the ribbon in under the stem. You will continue in this fashion until all stems are brought down.
Then you continue to weave in and out of the stems carefully tucking the little buds inside as you go along.
When you get down to a little past the buds cut and tie off then trim the bottom of the stems neatly and you have a lavender wand!
